Olympia Auto Mall and SUVs: The Perfect Pair

The SUV market has grown wildly in the past decade with most manufacturers having at least one SUV in their line-up. The attraction of this type of vehicle comes in many forms. The ability to provide comfortable seating for the entire family as well as all their gear is a huge up side to an SUV. Many models offer convertible seating arrangements that allow for seats to be folded down to increase storage capacity.
Engine and drive train options are quite extensive, including 4-wheel drive and all-wheel drive with power provided by means of gasoline and diesel engines, as well as hybrid models. The term SUV (sport utility vehicle) describes this genre perfectly. The ability to switch from hauling “stuff” around to taking the family on a hiking trip is what makes the SUV one of the most popular vehicle types on the market.
The best way to experience all that an SUV has to offer, is to view our online inventory, then make a trip to the Olympia Auto Mall and test drive a few of the many we have to offer so you can make an informed decision on which is the one for you. We look forward to seeing you soon.

SUVs and Crossovers

You can read quite a bit about SUVs and Crossover vehicles and think, what is the difference?  Technically, a Crossover is built on a car chassis while an SUV is built on a truck chassis. Many Crossovers are touted as an SUV which actually by definition, Sport Utility Vehicle is accurate. Both types of vehicles offer different advantages. The SUV typically can carry more payload; passengers and cargo plus have the capability of towing larger trailers such as boats and RVs. Crossovers generally are more sporty, nimble, and quite often attain better mileage.
Both types of vehicles are available in a hybrid configuration.  The range of available Crossovers and SUVs is amazing, both in size and in luxury options. You will not find a greater selection than at the Olympia Auto Mall. Come in and take a test drive and you will be able to choose which style works best for your needs; whether you are a single commuter that needs some extra space for sports gear or have a large family that needs seating for seven and all the “stuff” that goes along with them.

Lifted Trucks and SUVs

What is a lifted truck or SUV?

A lifted truck or SUV is a pickup truck or sport utility vehicle whose suspension has been modified to raise it up. This is typically done to increase clearance and performance, especially for off-road use.

There are type types of lifts – Body Lifts and Suspension Lifts

Body Lifts

Body lifts are the more economical approach to modifying your truck or SUV. These lifts do not change the ride of the vehicle, they simply give the tires more clearance for off-roading. While the factory suspension and alignment remains intact. The biggest downside to the body lift is that the frame of the vehicle is more visible.

Suspension Lifts

Unlike a body lift which can only raise the body 1-3 inches, a suspension lift can go as high as the driver wants. This type of lift makes the suspension more articulate and allows the owner to purchase larger tires if desired. The downside of a suspension lift is the expense, both in the initial effort to lift the suspension as well as in the maintenance. In addition, while larger tires can be purchased and often are, the oversized tires and high profile lead to poor gas mileage.

Expert advice on Lifted Trucks

If you are considering purchasing a truck and/or lifting your existing truck or SUV, check with an expert on the best way to proceed for your particular use. Learn from South Sound Trucks all the pros and cons, and everything you should consider when making these modifications. You can find South Sound Trucks at the Olympia Auto Mall, a convenient location for new and used vehicles, maintenance, service, and truck lifts.

What is the best used SUV?

If you are looking for the best SUV for your money, where do you start? Most of the major car manufacturers offer some type of SUV, Crossover, or Wagon. How do you decide what is best for you and what is the best value for your money?

Buying a used SUV

When buying a used SUV, you should ask yourself some important questions about size, usage, price range and fuel efficiency. SUVs come in small, medium, and large sizes and depending on the size of your family and how you plan to use your vehicle, the size of the SUV may give you a great start as to the type of SUV that would be most suitable.

For example, if you are a small family of four and your usage is mostly small, local trips, to and from school, sports practice, etc. then a small SUV may be just what you need. The small SUV will offer better gas mileage and will be easier to park for all those in-town trips.

If you have a larger family or perhaps you are a coach or soccer mom who is regularly transporting lots of children and gear, then a medium or full-size SUV may be required for both the seating and rear cargo capacity. The larger SUVs feature 3 rows of seats and the capacity to carry lots of luggage.

For those who take their SUVs off-road, 4-wheel drive and ground clearance are a must. Depending on the activities of the vehicle, other features may be desired, such as off-road bumpers, push bars, and grille protection. Learn more about these accessories before you buy as many aftermarket parts may void a manufacturer’s warranty.

For others, the desire for an SUV is simply the durable body style and elevated frame that offer an extra feeling of safety and security.

Where to buy used SUVs in the Tacoma and Puyallup areas

If you live in the greater Tacoma and Puyallup Washington area and are considering buying a used SUV, then shop the location that can offer you the best selection and the best prices. When is it time to buy a new car?

What makes you start to consider buying or saving for a new car? Is it after your cars has over 100,000 miles on it? 150,000? When you start hearing noises you’ve never heard before? Or, is it just that your best friend just bought a new car and you’re jealous?

Buying a new car

For many people, buying new cars is done on a schedule. They prefer a car that is under warranty and won’t unexpectedly have mechanical trouble, so they trade in their car every 3-5 years, upgrade to the latest model, or even switch manufacturers just to experience a variety in driving experience.

For others, the latest TV commercial showing you that your current vehicle is no longer the latest and greatest get them motivated. Tons of money is spent every year by the automobile manufacturers to lure you into the seat of a new car. Buying a new car can be expensive due to the depreciation in the first 3-4 years. However, if you have the money to spend on a new car, the technology improves every year and you will enjoy keeping pace with the improvements.

Where to buy new cars in the Tacoma area

If you live in the greater Tacoma Washington area and are considering buying that new car, then shop the location that can offer you the best selection and the best prices. Your time is valuable, so shopping for your next new car in an Auto Mall that can allow you to test drive all the cars on your bucket list and in your price range in one convenient location is a great advantage. You can also visit us online and search our entire inventory of new and used vehicles.

Experience the impressively upgraded 2017 Volkswagen Passat

With last year’s model experiencing an impressive upgrade, one wouldn’t think to expect many changes to the new 2017 Volkswagen Passat. Yes, the changes are subtle, but they’re important enough to make the new Passat a very attractive option if you’re looking at new cars for sale.

Standard safety features

Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking will come as a standard across the board on all Passat models in 2017. This safety feature monitors the front of the vehicle, sounding a warning if a collision is imminent and automatically stopping the car if the driver doesn’t respond.

New trim lineup and features

Most of the changes to the 2017 Volkswagen Passat involve features available on the different trim levels: the SE trim will now include keyless access and push-button start, as well as the features offered with the previous model such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB ports, and heated leatherette seats.

The 2017 Passat’s R-line trim now includes the Composition Media touchscreen, Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, and heated leatherette seats. Some of these features were only available with the previous model when upgrading to the R-line Comfort Package.

The 2017 Volkswagen Passat V6 SE with Technology is a new trim level, available as an ‘order only’ option, that allows drivers to add several features to the V6 engine models. These include LED headlights and taillights, remote start, Park Distance Control, and 18-inch-aluminum-alloy wheels.

Why the 2017 Subaru Forester is the torque of the town

Most changes in the 2017 Subaru Forester are subtle and what you would expect from a mid-cycle refresh: slightly revised exterior and interior styling and upgrades, a few new safety features… However, what makes the 2017 model stand out from other new cars for sale is the addition of brake-based torque vectoring as part of Subaru’s active safety suite.

Active Torque Vectoring

Active Torque Vectoring will now be available, but only on the top-trim version of the turbocharged, 250-hp Forester 2.0XT. This brake-based feature snubs the inside front wheel during cornering to reduce understeer and enable sharper handling and will be packaged as part of Subaru’s Eyesight active safety suite, which has also been upgraded.

Upgraded safety features

Eyesight has received a long overdue update for the 2017 Subaru Forester. New safety features include lane-keeping assist, blind-spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert, in addition to previous features such as adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Eyesight will be available on all Forester models except the 2.5i base trim.

Interior and exterior

The exterior of the 2017 Forester features subtle changes, such as LED accent lights, a reshaped hexagonal grille, and revised wheel designs. Inside, there’s a new steering wheel design (with optional heating on certain models) as well as improved soundproofing and Saddle Brown leather seats as a trim upgrade on all Touring models.

Other features that will be more accessible as trim options for the 2017 Subaru Forester include keyless access, automatic climate control, a power liftgate, and Subaru’s X-Mode traction system and hill-descent control.

The 2017 Mazda 6 - A family sedan with a sporty side

Between 2017’s new cars for sale, the Mazda 6 shines as a superb family vehicle that is a pleasure to drive. The 2017 Mazda 6 combines comfort and safety with a sleek design and enhanced luxury features for an overall better driving experience.

New driving features

The 2017 Mazda 6 is one of the vehicles in Mazda’s lineup that will be debuting G-Vectoring Control, which makes fine adjustments to engine torque that induce load transfer toward the front axle as the steering wheel is turned off-center, resulting in improved steering response. This adaption allows for smooth, quick cornering - lending a sporty feel to the Mazda’s driving capabilities.

Also, new to the 2017 Mazda 6 is an upgrade to the i-Activsense safety features, which can now detect pedestrians in addition to other obstacles. In addition, the upgraded i-Activsense package now includes traffic-sign recognition (including speed-limit, no-entry, and stop signs), and the emergency braking function operates up to 99 mph.

Luxury interior styling

While the exterior styling of the 2017 Mazda 6 has barely changed, when it comes to the interior you can expect a host of new luxury features, such as a new steering wheel design (with optional heating), a full-color TFT driver information display, and improved sound proofing.

A new Premium Package offered on the 2017 Mazda 6 Grand Touring is what truly takes this sedan to new heights of luxury. Included in the Premium Package are Nappa leather seats (in a choice of black or almond) with titanium gray piping and stitching, LED interior map lights, heated rear seats, darker metal trim, and the upper trim and headliner available in black. Displaying typical Mazda attention to detail, the Premium Package also features a steering wheel stitched using the specialized Japanese Chidori technique.

Drive the open road dream in the 2017 Ford Mustang

Could there be a car more classically American than the Ford Mustang? With over 5 decades of heritage, the new 2017 Ford Mustang combines the bold styling and thrilling driving capabilities that fans have come to expect, with a couple of exciting new features. If you’re on the lookout for new cars for sale and are in the market for a sports car, this updated icon will surely get your engine revving.

What’s new for the 2017 Ford Mustang?

Exterior and interior styling of the 2017 Ford Mustang haven’t changed much. After all, why fix what’s not broken? Ford introduces 3 hot new colors for the 2017 model - Ruby Red Metallic, Lightning Blue, and Grabber Blue - to replace the Deep Impact Blue and Competition Orange.

The most significant change, however, is the accessibility of the previous Ford Mustang GT’s Track Package option. What was formerly an optional upgrade will now be standard on all 2017 Ford Mustang GT models. These features include an aluminum tower-to-tower brace, a high-downforce, deck-lid spoiler, engine oil, transmission and differential coolers, and Ford’s MagneRide damping system.

Available upgrades on the Ford Mustang have also evolved slightly - offering greater flexibility when customizing extras. Two new packages are available: an Electronics Package and a Convenience Package (previously the Tech Package which could not be combined with the Track Package).

The Electronics Package includes SYNC 3, voice-activated navigation and nine-speaker audio system. The Convenience Package includes all features of the Electronics Package, in addition to replacing the Ford Mustang’s manual Recaro seats with leather-trimmed power-sports seats.

A buyer's guide to the 2017 Lincoln MKZ

As Ford’s premium brand, the Lincoln has - for some - been a disappointment in previous years. This is no longer the case with the 2017 Lincoln MKZ which has received a complete upgrade - including an incredible new 400 horsepower  engine - thoroughly elevating it to a new status amongst other new cars for sale in the luxury market.

Styling

Exterior styling changes to the 2017 Lincoln MKZ are subtle. Most notable are the new signature front grille (this will be the first Lincoln to feature this styling change), adaptive LED headlights, and a Lincoln logo ‘welcome mat’ projecting from the side mirrors when the car is unlocked at night.

Interior

Inside, the MKZ has been vastly remodeled, with buttons and knobs replacing the previous sliding controls. The interior styling is elegant and luxurious, with the top of the line trim featuring a center console trimmed in real aluminum. For added convenience, four high-speed USB charging ports (two of which can be accessed by passengers in the rear) are included, as well as 2 choices of Revel-branded Harman/Kardon audio systems (14- or 20-speaker set-up).

Technology

New to the 2017 Lincoln MKZ is autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, all-speed adaptive cruise control, and the latest version of Ford’s park assist system. In addition, the MKZ will debut the MyLincoln Mobile app to enable remote locking, unlocking, and starting via smartphone.

Feature-rich Family Fun - That's the 2017 Kia Sportage

The 2017 Kia Sportage has been completely redesigned, addressing some concerns of previous models such as interior space and the smoothness of the ride. If you’re searching new cars for sale specifically with a family car in mind, the new Sportage is a superb choice that competes well with other compact crossover SUV’s.

Exterior and interior styling

The exterior of the Kia Sportage has been restyled to feature a bold, modern design. In addition, the new model is slightly bigger, which adds up to a much roomier interior, particularly for back seat passengers (an upgrade that makes the 2017 Kia Sportage especially family-friendly). The interior styling is very elegant, featuring leather upholstery, heated seats and steering wheel, and updated controls. The infotainment touch screen has also been updated, and now includes syncing with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Driving capabilities

The Sportage has received a re-engineered suspension set up, making for a much smoother ride than previous models. In addition, features such as the optional Turbo engine, front or all-wheel-drive, electrically assisted power steering and noise-reducing interior insulation result in a great all round driving experience.

Safety features

In terms of safety, the 2017 Kia Sportage is on a par with other compact SUV crossovers, offering features such as forward-collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.

From All-terrain to Tailgating - The 2017 Honda Ridgeline Has It All

A true winner amongst 2017’s new cars for sale, the redesigned 2017 Honda Ridgeline has been styled to look more like a conventional pick-up while retaining the spacious interior comfort of an SUV. What’s more, a combination of existing and new innovations gives it a variety of features that no other vehicle in the mid-size pick-up market offers.

With gross combined weight rating of 8,201 pounds on two-wheel-drive and 9,986 pounds on all-wheel-drive models, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline has improved towing capabilities. The truck also has a pick-up-bed wide enough to fit a quad bike, clever storage spaces under the back seats, and a ‘trunk’ in the pick-up-bed.

Driving capabilities

Although Honda’s 6-speed transmission has been retained, adjusted gear ratios make for a quick response from a dead stop and quick transitions. Suspension has been completely revised, resulting in a smooth ride on the open road. It also boasts one of the quietest interiors on the market, with sound insulating materials to reduce road-induced noise.

Off-road performance

While the 2017 Honda Ridgeline is not as rugged as some of its body-on-frame competitors, it handles more than adequately. In addition to redesigned suspension, a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system allows drivers to select driving conditions (normal, snow, mud, and sand) and let the onboard computers handle throttle response and traction control.
