As the original hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Prius could be called
the poster child for environmentally friendly cars. Since Toyota first launched
the Prius, many other new cars for sale from competitor brands have
introduced ‘green’ hybrid vehicles. However, the 2017 Toyota Prius has upped
the game even further with a new plug-in model, the Prius Prime, which has been
designed to travel 22 miles on only electricity.
2017 Toyota Prius Prime plug-in features
• While
fuel economy for the plug-in model has not been released, Toyota is projecting
a figure equivalent to the non-plug-in Prius;
• Double
the electric range to 22 miles with a top speed of 84 mph;
• Fully
charged in approximately 5 and a half hours from a standard household
electrical outlet;
• A
range of 600 miles with a fully charged battery and a full 11.3-gallon fuel
tank.
2017 Toyota Prius styling
The styling of the 2017 Toyota Prius non-plug-in model has remained unchanged
from 2016. The Prime plug-in model, however, has received a complete front end remodel, measuring 2.4 inches
longer and 0.6 inches wider to differentiate it from its sibling. Some of these
styling changes include thin LED-headlamp enclosures around a blacked-out
center section (removing the lower “fish
lip” look of the non-plug-in Prius),
as well as a revised back design that includes a wraparound LED tail-lamp
integrated into the spoiler.
Safety features on all models
All 2017 Toyota Prius models will now include Toyota Safety Sense
P (TSS-P) as a standard feature, previously only available on the most
expensive trim models. TSS-P includes radar-based adaptive cruise control,
pre-collision braking to a full stop (including pedestrian detection),
lane-departure warning with steering correction, and automatic high-beam
headlight control.
