All wheel drive, 270 hp, and a six-speed transmission in a
four-door sports sedan. That is what you will get in the 2018 Subaru WRX (World
Rally eXperimental).
While staying true to the established formula, the current
WRX is a little larger than the last generation, affording a more spacious rear
seat; the five-speed manual transmission became a six-speed; and higher trims
now offer a CVT automatic. For 2018, the WRX has a freshened exterior, revised
suspension, upgraded interior, and new EyeSight features. Despite evolving, the
car feels surprisingly raw, remaining a track-ready racer aimed at the serious
driving enthusiast. Acceleration is ferociously quick, and handling remains
enormously capable.
Make no mistake, this is not a luxury sedan with a cushy
ride. You must be truly young at heart to enjoy the real-world driving
experience. All wheel drive makes this car handle fantastic in the dry and if
you install a set of winter tires, this car is amazing in the wet as well. Cornering
grip is astonishing. Its top speed through a double-lane-change avoidance
maneuver was 59 mph -- better than the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and on the
heels of the Porsche 911. It was also easy to control and instilled plenty of
driver confidence.
With 268-hp on tap from its 2.0-liter turbocharged
four-cylinder engine, the WRX takes off very quickly, sprinting to 60 mph in
6.0 seconds. The STi mod features leather seats, and comes with a 305-hp,
2.5-liter four cylinder. Interior features nice fit and finish throughout the
cabin. Touch screen sound system and navigation are also available.
When you’re ready to sit behind the wheel of this legendary
sports sedan, go see the nice folks at Hanson Motors Subaru in the Olympia Auto
Mall and feel how impressive the 2018 WRX really is. You will be amazed. See
you soon.
