Most changes in the 2017 Subaru Forester are subtle and what you
would expect from a mid-cycle refresh: slightly revised exterior and interior
styling and upgrades, a few new safety features… However, what makes the 2017
model stand out from other new cars for sale is the addition of brake-based
torque vectoring as part of Subaru’s active safety suite.
Active
Torque Vectoring
Active Torque Vectoring will now be available, but only on the
top-trim version of the turbocharged, 250-hp Forester 2.0XT. This brake-based
feature snubs the inside front wheel during cornering to reduce understeer and
enable sharper handling and will be packaged as part of Subaru’s Eyesight
active safety suite, which has also been upgraded.
Upgraded safety features
Eyesight has received a long overdue update for the 2017 Subaru Forester. New safety features include
lane-keeping assist, blind-spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert, in
addition to previous features such as adaptive cruise control,
forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Eyesight will be
available on all Forester models except the 2.5i base trim.
Interior and exterior
The exterior of the 2017 Forester features subtle changes, such
as LED accent lights, a reshaped hexagonal grille, and revised wheel designs.
Inside, there’s a new steering wheel design (with optional heating on certain
models) as well as improved soundproofing and Saddle Brown leather seats as a
trim upgrade on all Touring models.
Other features that will be more accessible as trim options for
the 2017 Subaru Forester include keyless access, automatic climate control, a
power liftgate, and Subaru’s
X-Mode traction system and hill-descent control.
